Mole Removal

Moles, also known as Melanocytic nevi, are skin growths that are usually brown or black in colour due to a high concentration of melanin in them. They typically appear in early childhood and last until the age of 30. A person's body may have up to 40 moles. The appearance of moles changes with time; they may grow in size, become elevated, and change colour. One or more hair strands may occasionally erupt through the mole.

Moles are characterised histologically as epidermal, junctional, or intradermal, based on the level at which the cells are present.

Procedure

Moles, particularly those on the cheeks, can enhance a woman's beauty, but they can also be unsightly. In such instances, most people choose to have the unsightly lesions removed.

Moles can be removed by a variety of methods.

These are some examples:

  • Excision or radiofrequency ablation

  • Excision with a laser

  • Excision of hair using a surgical blade

  • Elliptical resuturing and excision
